Apostle T.C. Pettaway

Undoubtedly, it will take many months-or years-to digest all that Apostle Pettaway shared with God's people over the years. but I can say that most are stuck by how at ease- content, yes but more than that-Pettaway was in his own skin. He was fully present, alert, energized and fascinated by the world and the people around him.

His contributions spanned six decades yet it was more than simply a matter of age.

It was spiritual.

He prayed, kept the Sabbath and listened to the voice of God. We can still hear him saying "Everything must be done with Him and through him, including your direction in life".

Thomas Pettaway was the founder & Senior Pastor of Greater Faith Church Ministries for more than 40 years. He started in 1971 in a local union hall located at Middletown, Connecticut with just two members. After hearing the voice of God, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut. During his 28-year stay, he worked hard, got a lot of things going, set goals and met goals. He led several "Save Our Neighborhood" marches soliciting the help of Reverend Jessie Jackson. A result of his effort led to the demolition of a drug infested building located right next door to his church.

His work didn't stop there. He was energized, had money to raise and a church to build. Well, they burned the mortgage, things were going well, and the ministry was aimed at developing a solid foundation for the fulfillment of a larger vision. Once again, he heard the voice of the Lord. The Lord told him to sell the building. He obeyed and sold the building and didn't lose the faith when he and his congregation found themselves without a permanent place of worship. If the truth be told, he could have been a wealthy man if he had chosen to stay for personal gain. Instead, he chose to follow the voice of the Lord. Many of the people quit, many of the people was discouraged- but with the shield of faith, helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, he kept moving forward and never missed a Sunday Service of worship.

At last, the Word of the Lord manifested itself and in 2002 he purchased the building the location at 31 Prospect Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut. The building underwent many renovations and trying times but ultimately the start of the vision came to pass and the grand opening took place On June 5, 2004.

In October 2004, Pastor T.C. Pettaway was ordained as Apostle T.C. Pettaway. World renowned Apostle Richard D. Henton of Chicago, Illinois was the Chief Consecrator for the ceremony. Oh, what a day it was! His spiritual father was by his mother was to witness this glorious occasion. The audience included Archbishops, Bishops, Prophets, Pastors and leaders from many different churches and denominations. It was a powerful and sobering experience for all. Another level of ministry-the Apostolic Ministry was in the midst.

His spiritual offspring often testify to the fact that they learned most of what they know through the teachings of Apostle Pettaway. Young men and women alike marvel at his discipline and liken to follow in his footsteps. Aside from all that he has to do and have done, he still found the time to share his wisdom with those who seek spiritual guidance.

One thing is for sure- he followed the call on his life and positioned himself to take the authority imposed upon by Our Lord.

"Remember how very good life can be, and how very fortunate you are to be living it. Remember the things that truly matter, your most profound blessings, your most treasured dreams".  "The frustrations and inconveniences, the disappointments and setbacks all exist on a certain level, and you can rise to a much higher level". Apostle said in one of his messages.

Before the Lord called Apostle Pettaway home on February 1, 2015, he left the church in the hands very capable people, including his three sons, Tony Pettaway, Timothy Pettaway and Dexter Pettaway who now serve on the Board of Directors along with three long time members, Cynthia Fowler, Paulette Fryer and Danielle Fowler. We've had three Pastors since his passing with the third one "being a charm". Dr. Gwendolyn L. McKinsey, Senior Pastor who is also a long-time member and together, they strive to continue the Lord's work and to build upon legacy of Apostle T.C. Pettaway.

A Prayer of Hope and Salvation.
